- HOW IT WORKS
How Electrical Upgrade Projects Work
Most electrical upgrade work can be assessed from a brief description, photos, or a short site visit.
We’ll provide a clear written quote before any work is agreed.
- Quotes are based on the existing installation being suitable for the proposed work
- Any additional work is discussed and agreed before it goes ahead
- All work is installed, tested and certified to current regulations
- Building Control notification is handled where required
- If needed, an electrical safety inspection (EICR) can be carried out first
- If existing protection is not suitable, a consumer unit upgrade may be recommended
- COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a survey before work can begin?
Smaller electrical upgrades can be assessed from photos and a description of the work required.
For larger or more involved projects, we may recommend a short site visit before providing a quotation.
Can additional sockets or lighting be added to existing circuits?
In many cases, yes.
However, we’ll always assess the condition, capacity, and protection of the existing circuit before recommending additional work.
Where needed, new circuits or upgrades may be advised instead.
Will the work be tested and certified?
Yes – where applicable, all electrical work is tested and certified in line with current regulations.
Where Building Regulations notification is required, this is handled as part of the installation.
What if additional work is identified during the project?
If anything unexpected is identified – such as inadequate existing wiring or insufficient protection – we’ll discuss this with you before any additional work is carried out.
No changes are completed without agreement.
For more information, see our How We Work page.
Can I supply my own light fittings or accessories?
Yes. Decorative fittings and specialist accessories are often supplied by the customer.
We’re happy to advise on suitability before purchase where needed.
View our: Customer Supplied Materials guide
Will there be disruption or damage during the work?
This depends on the type of work being carried out.
Many smaller upgrades can be completed with minimal disruption, while others may require limited access work, cable routing, or chasing into walls.
Where dust or more disruptive work is expected, we’ll discuss this clearly before work begins.
For more information, see our Managing Dusty Works guide.
Can older consumer units or wiring affect upgrade work?
Yes. Some older installations may not be suitable for additional circuits or increased electrical demand.
Where improvements to the existing installation are recommended, we’ll explain the reasons clearly before proceeding.
In some cases, upgrading the consumer unit may be recommended before additional work is carried out.
